The most honest thing a client ever said to me about AI

Two years ago, a client told me something I still think about.

He'd spent thousands on AI tools. ChatGPT, some automation software, a subscription to something he couldn't even remember the name of.

And he said: "Everyone told me AI would change my business. So why am I still doing everything by hand?"

That sentence is the whole reason I do what I do.

Because here's what I've learned building systems for businesses like his: everyone adopts AI. Almost nobody makes it work.

They buy the tool. They run it once. They post about it. And then it just… sits there. A gym membership they never use.

The problem was never the AI. The models are brilliant. The tools are cheap.

The problem is the unglamorous middle nobody talks about — wiring it into the tools they already use, making it reliable enough to run without someone watching, building it around how the business actually works instead of how a tutorial says it should.

That's not a prompt. That's engineering.

So with that client, I stopped talking about "AI" completely. I asked one question instead: what do you and your team do by hand every single day that you hate?

We automated exactly that.

A few weeks later he messaged me — not about the tech, but because his team had their evenings back.

That's the moment I chase now. Not "we're using AI."

But "we forgot this used to be manual."

📩 If you've bought the tools but nothing actually changed — that's the gap I close. Message me, and I'll tell you honestly what it'd take.
